1. Who are you?
We are a small team composed of instructors, hosts, professionals, and supporters, who share the same principles on language, learning, and life. Everyone has a different skill, but plenty of experience in what we do. We used to have only Brazilian coachees (learning English) in the past (for 30 years). However, the growing number of people interested in communicating in Portuguese, made us diversify our field of study and work.
2. How do I know this program suits me?
Well, this program was created for people who want to know a part of this country which is NOT the traditional Brazil you might have heard of. So, if you are expecting to dance the ‘samba’, see the Carnival, swim at beaches every day, or go to parties every night, this is NOT ideal for you. This program is also NOT tailored for very young people or teenagers, as it is aimed at adults, who want to know how people live here, how we communicate, and where we go. So, all the places we are visiting, are the ones the regular ‘gaúcho’ visits, eating what he eats, and feeling what he feels. However, if you want to go on hiking, rappelling, or rafting, talk to us, and we will introduce you to our business partners, who will provide the best possible adventure for you.
3. How did you have that idea?
I have traveled to many places around North and South America and Europe, and I have always wanted to visit places that are not only tourist attractions. I was curious to know how people lived in those places, and their history, and of course, I wanted to learn their language and practice my English. Nine years ago I found a program in Europe, and I decided to start a Portuguese program like that in Brazil, featuring the South region of the country.
4. How does the program work?
Basically, it is a 10-day immersion program, which will include Portuguese lessons in the morning, excursions/activities in the afternoons, and cultural/social activities in some evenings. After contacting us, we will schedule an online conversation and your study plan will be prepared specially for YOU, according to your goals and preferences.
5. Where am I going to stay? Who are the host families?
Caring host families will provide you a room and your own washroom. They will also cater for you (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). You will get soft towels and fresh bedding, and your laundry will also be done.
They have a great conversation, they have ‘chimarrão’ (our typical drink), they cook well, and we have been friends for a long time. So, you are coming to stay with my friends. 😉
6. How should I pay for that?
You can pay through PayPal. You should make an initial deposit of 20% of that value, and you may pay the remaining in installments. However, the total amount must be paid by 4 weeks before the beginning of the course. We will send you a Request for Payment and as soon as we confirm your transfer, you will be given a receipt – after every deposit.
7. How much money should I take with me?
It depends on your profile. If you are a big spender, you should have more money on you (Brazilian Real). Otherwise, you will not have daily expenses, except when visiting museums, bars, restaurants, or shops. If you want to go on extra excursions that are not included in our regular program or spend a night in a hotel, that should be reserved previously and also included in the monthly deposit. Contact us to learn more about other activities you might like to do and add to your initial package.
8. What kind of clothes should I take?
It depends on the time of the year you are coming. In May it is fall, the temperature is mild, about 16°C, but you are advised to bring a jacket. October is spring, with temperatures around 20°C. However, if we travel to the mountains, the temperatures will be lower, especially in the evening, July and August.
9. What will I learn?
Firstly, before you come, we are going to have a conversation to talk about your goals. After that, we will make an exclusive study plan, according to your needs and objectives. Finally, we will apply it once you are here.
10. I can only speak my own language and I’d like to learn Portuguese. What should I do?
If you speak at least English (it might be a little), we can help you. We can also understand Spanish and Italian. However, we wouldn’t be able to communicate if you can’t speak a little English.
11. How do I enroll?
Firstly, you will reach us through our Contact tab, and we will send you all the information you need. After your initial 20% deposit, you will receive a receipt and your place will be booked. If you want to pay the balance in installments, it is possible, since it is paid off at least 4 weeks before your arrival.
12. How do I get there?
Unless you are in Portugal or flying from a country in South America, you should travel to major centers like Rio or São Paulo and change planes for your connecting flights. Your final destination is PORTO ALEGRE – Aeroporto Internacional Salgado Filho.
13. And what happens when I get there?
We will be waiting for you to head to your homestay in São Leopoldo, where we are located, about 35 km from Porto Alegre.
14. Do I need vaccines for Brazil?
Today they are mandatory, especially against the COVID. There are others also, required by several countries. Diseases, that might be common in other parts of Brazil, do not thrive in this region due to its colder weather. Please, check with your travel agent what he/she recommends.
15. Do I need a visa for Brazil?
Brazil requires many tourists to obtain a visa. Please check with your local embassy or travel agent if a Visa is required.
16. If you have any other questions which are not here, don’t hesitate to contact us.
